
Luis Torres
Since 2024, Luis is heading Yara’s global agronomic R&D organization, and head of the Centre for Plant Nutrition and Environmental Research Hanninghof, located in Duelmen. Germany. Yara’s agronomic R&D in part of the Global Innovation unit encompassing a global multidisciplinary team and capabilities on 4 key areas such as 1) plant nutrition and fertilizer management, nutrient use efficiency, carbon footprint, soil health and ReAg practices, 2) product development for soil applied fertilizers, foliar/coatings, inhibitors and biostimulants (biologicals) technologies; 3) agronomic and digital recommendation tools, precision farming and services, and 4) data analytics and modelling. After studying Agronomy (Venezuela) he received a MSc in Tropical and International Agriculture from the University of Goettingen (Germany) and PhD in Plant Nutrition from the University of Hannover (Germany). Working in Yara since 2000 Luis has held several roles in central and market in Venezuela, Brazil and Germany spanning fertilizer sales, business development, product and project management as well as product and agronomic R&D. Luis has worked for many years on fertilizers and technology development aimed improved nutrient use efficiency, and lately main focus is on crop bioregulation technologies for abiotic stress alleviation and improved crop performance. He has published on topics related to novel technologies and product development, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers and use efficiency as well as on agronomic efficiency and environmental impacts of nitrogen fertilizers. Luis is member of the German society for Plant Nutrition, and active in several global scientific forums.
