
Marta Nunes Silva
Marta Nunes da Silva is an Invited Assistant Professor in Biology and Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Biotechnology, Portuguese Catholic University, and Doctorate Researcher at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF). Her research focuses on i) genotype × environment interactions and crop ecophysiology, ii) plant nutrition and micronutrient-driven immunity, iii) integrated disease management in fruit crops and legumes, and iv) climate adaptation strategies for sustainable agrifood systems. She has contributed to 23 R&D projects, including seven funded by the European Commission, and currently leads the CLIMAX project (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, 2025–2030) on climate-resilient plant disease mitigation. Her scholarly output includes over 30 peer- reviewed publications, five edited special issues, and numerous international conference presentations. She has received several awards, including the Agronomy Best PhD Thesis Award, two Young Minds Awards from the International Society for Horticultural Sciences (ISHS), and first place in the international competition “My Hort Thesis in 3 Minutes”. A founding member of the ISHS Young Minds Committee, Marta Nunes da Silva also serves on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Plant Science and Plants, People & Planet. Her work bridges fundamental research and practical innovation, with strong engagement in science communication, education, and industry collaboration.
